TITLE:     BEREAVEMENT POLICY

RESCIND:  February 15, 2017

EFFECTIVE: JUNE 27, 2025 

Provide uniform policy and standards relating use of funeral days within the Department.

HOW BEREAVEMENT ELIGIBILITY IS DETERMINED:

  1. Because of the emergency nature of the service provided it is imperative that we all cooperate in order to allow the employee leave in the case of a death in their family.
  2. Employees will be granted two (2) funeral days per calendar Year to be used in the case of death in the employees immediate family.
    1. For the purpose of this manual the following are Considered immediate family: Mother, father, brother, sister, child, spouse, grandparent, mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, legal guardian, or other person who stands in place of a parent.
  3. Funeral days are based on an twelve (12) hour work day.

 

In regards to: All Rules, Regulations, Policy & Procedures and Special Orders are at the discretion of the Sheriff based on departmental need and the severity of the infraction.
