VEHICLE & PROPERTY THEFT WARNING -EVANGELINE PARISH SHERIFF'S OFFICE

Over the past month, Evangeline Parish has experienced multiple vehicle and property thefts, many occurring in broad daylight. The Sheriff's Office is issuing a stern warning to all residents-especially farmers, construction workers, and anyone who leaves keys in their vehicle or leaves a vehicle running.

Thieves are acting quickly, often taking property while owners are only steps away. Daytime activity does not deter them.

 
WHAT YOU MUST DO TO PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY
Secure All Vehicles - Remove keys, shut off engines, lock doors, and never leave equipment unattended while running.
Lock All Property - Barns, sheds, trucks, tractors, trailers, and construction equipment should remain locked at all times.
Document Vehicle Information - Keep your license plate number, VIN, make, model, and color written down and easily accessible.
Record Trailer Details - Maintain serial numbers, identifying marks, and photographs of your trailers and equipment.
Stay Vigilant - Theft is occurring during daylight hours. Pay attention to unfamiliar vehicles, individuals, or activity near your property.
Report Suspicious Activity - Call immediately if something feels out of place.
 
WHY THIS MATTERS
Many recent thefts happened within minutes because vehicles were left unlocked, running, or with keys inside. Criminals are targeting locations where owners feel "safe" or "close enough" to their property. Even a short lapse can result in a major loss.

Your awareness and caution are critical in helping deputies reduce thefts across the parish.
