Stand-Off in Evangeline Parish
On December 4, 2025, Narcotic Agents were conducting a surveillance operation within the Bond Road of Redell. Agents had momentarily parked at the intersection of Lahaye Road and Old Highway 13 in the parking area of the Car Wash. Agents were approached several times by a white male wearing a black colored cowboy hat, and black face mask with dark clothing concealing his face. The white male was a 60-year-old white male, who agents identified as Gerald Chapman, who was asked agents if they needed vehicle assistance. Agents informed the Chapman several times to step away from the vehicle. Chapman departed the area momentarily and returned with a rifle in his hands, approximately 24 feet away and assumed a warfare fighting stance hiding behind an electrical pole. At this time agents perceived Chapman to conducted a threat assessment of agents. After a short period of time, Chapman returned to his residence which was located across La Hwy 13 and fired 3 shots from his rifle. Agents drove to where the shots rang out from at 6646 Veteran Memorial Hwy (La. Hwy 13) and observed Chapman with a rifle in his hands by a tree adjacent to the residence and then ran around the tree looking at agents using the tree for cover. Chapman then took a tactical kneeling position pointing his weapon at agents'direction. At this time Agents drew their weapons and ordered Chapman to drop his weapon and place his hands in the air and Chapman immediately retreated into the residence. Agent notified dispatch of the situation and additional units were called to respond to 6646Veteran Memorial Hwy (La. Hwy 13). Upon the arrival of additional units, the house was surrounded and "Call Outs" were conducted to Chapman who was and remained in the house. Evangeline Parish Executive Staff initiated a phone call to Chapman attempting to negotiate a peaceful surrender. After several hours of negotiating Chapman agreed to exit with his hands up in the air. Moments later, Agents and Deputies wereable to safely detain Gerald Chapman who stated he had booby traps throughout his house. Upon agents learning Chapman statement of him having booby traps in areas of the residence, Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office notified Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office and requested the assistance of their EOD unit to assist in searching the residence. A search Warrant was secured for the residence. During the search of the residence with RPSO, agents and deputies located several guns throughout the residence, a large number of multiple calibers of ammunition was and what appeared to be a plastic pvc shell of a pipe bomb as well as 2 long pieces of plastic pvc pipe that were the same size of the pipe bomb located in the safe of the residence.
Narcotic Agents and Patrol units with Evangeline Parish Sheriff Office conducted a secondary search of the residence with the assistance of Rapides Parish Office Bomb Unit and located the following within the living room area of the residence:
1. Mossberg 500 A 12-gauge Serial Number: P731743 (located beside the south side of couch in living room)
2. Traditions Hawken Woodsman 50 Cal Serial Number: 164300607506 (Located southwest corner of living room)
3. Marlin .22 Long Riffle Serial Number: 01091019 (Located on south side of a safe within the living room)
4. Marlin .22 Long Riffle Serial Number: 06186081 (Located on the southside of a safe within the living room)
5. Amadeo Rossi 45 Colt Serial Number: AM021588
6. Marlin Model 30-30 Serial Number: 13021750
7. Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Serial Number: SX90589
Gregory Chapman had two active warrants with Evangeline Parish Sheriff Office for the charges of FTA unlawful ownership of dangerous dog dogs not to run at large, FTA for theft less than $1000, Theft less than $1000 and Criminal Damage to property less than $1000. He also held a active warrant for St Landry Sheriff Office for the charges of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm.
The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's arrested and charged Gerald Chapman with the following:

La RS 14:54.5 Fake Explosive Device
La RS 14:40.1 Terrorizing
