NARCOTIC PRESS RELEASE ~JOSEPH CHARLES~

On April 30, 2025  Narcotic Agents with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office assigned to Criminal Patrol / Narcotics Division observed a vehicle with Louisiana License Plate 523HIQ, cover its license plate with a tinted plate cover that could not be seen by agents.  , as well as activate its right turn blinker at the intersection of 6th and Hickory Street, and both driver and passenger did not have a seat belt properly secured on their body prior to the traffic stop.   

Upon making the traffic stop, agents made with driver identified as Abbi A Fontenot and a passenger who is a 37-yer-old black male who was identified as Joseph Charles.   The driver, Fontenot was advised for the reasoning of the traffic stop and instructed to provide her license, vehicle registration and vehicle insurance forms. Dispatch was advised of both subject's identification. During the field interview, agents learned Joseph Charles had an Active Warrant through Probation and Parole for the charges of 3 counts of Simple Burglary, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Heroin, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, and Simple Escape Type I.  Joseph Charles was instructed to step out of the vehicle and to face away from law enforcement. Once Joseph Charles exited the vehicle, he was physically restrained in handcuffs, Joseph Charles was also advised that he was being detained at the time due to Active Warrants. Once detained Jospeh was asked if he possessed anything on him which he shouldn't. Joseph Charles advised that he held Suboxone within his pocket.  Upon the completion of a search of his person, Charles possessed (8) Buprenorphine and Naloxone Sublingual Film 8mg / 2mg (Schedule III). Jospeh Charles advised that it was his medication.  Joseph Charles was asked if he possessed a prescription for the substance, in which he stated it was at his mother's home in Ville Platte. Jospeh Charles was advised it was illegal to travel with his prescription outside of its prescription container. 

Joseph Charles was transported to Evangeline Parish Jail and he was arrested and charged with (1) Count of 40:968 Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule III, as well as his active warrants through Probation and Parole.
