~NARCOTIC PRESS RELEASE~ JAMES MALVEAUX
On May 8, 2025, Narcotic Agent with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office assigned to Criminal Patrol / Narcotics division while patrolling, observed a vehicle conduct a left turn on Hickory and 7th street without using a signal 100 ft prior to turning. Agents activated the emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle then conducted a right turn onto Hackberry Ave without using a signal and continued to travel west on Hackberry Ave. After a pursuit within the city limits of Mamou, Agents conducted a felony stop of the vehicle and its occupants.
Upon agents making contact with the driver, who was identified as a 45-year-old Black male as James Malveaux Jr. was ordered to exit the vehicle and was immediately detained. Upon Malveaux exiting the vehicle, agents observed Malveaux chewing on some type of substance that maintained the odor of Marijuana and alcohol as well. Agents instructed Malveaux to stop chewing and open his mouth. Malveaux swallowed the unknown substance. Agents also observed particles of methamphetamines on the clothing of Malveaux. Upon reading the Miranda Rights and stating he understood his rights, Malveaux admitted to agents he had swallowed an undetermined amount of Marijuana. A search of the vehicle was conducted by agents, and agents located a .40 Caliber High-Point pistol and .37 grams of methamphetamines on the seat of the vehicle.
James Malveaux was arrested and charged with (1) Count 40:967C Possession of Schedule II Methamphetamine, (1) Count 40:969 Possession of Schedule IV Narcotics, (1) Count 14:95. E Possession of a Firarm in the presence of a CDS, (1) Count 14:130.1 Obstruction of Justice, and (1) Count 14:108.1 Aggravated flight from an officer.
