NARCOTIC DIVISION, LOUISIANA STATE POLICE AND POSTAL INSPECTOR TEAM UP!
On April 23, 2023, Homeland Security notified the Criminal Patrol/Narcotics Division of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office of a package that was intercepted that contained an illegal and deadly device called a "glock switch". A "Glock switch, often called an auto sear, is a small, illegal aftermarket device that replaces the standard rear slide cover plate of a semi-automatic handgun. It mechanically overrides the trigger mechanism, instantly converting the firearm into a machine gun capable of continuous, fully automatic fire with a single pull of the trigger.
On May 7, 2026, Narcotic Agents with the assistance of Louisiana State Police, HSI and the Postal Inspector investigated the shipment of the "glock switch", learning the package originated from the "Shipper" Shanghai Chijie Logistics, Shanghai China with final a destination of delivery being to a 78-year-old black male, identified as Joseph A. Fontenot with the address of 217 Third Street Mamou, LA. Upon the completion of an investigation, a search warrant was secured for the residence of 217 Third Street, Mamou, La.
On May 14, 2026, Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics/Criminal Patrol Division, with the assistance of the Louisiana State Police, Department of Homeland Security, and U.S. Postal Inspector, conducted a controlled delivery. Upon the package being delivered and received by Joseph A Fontenot, agents conducted a call out from their residence.
After several minutes, Joseph A Fontenot exited the residence, and agents detained Fontenot and placed him in restraints and advised him of his Miranda Rights. Agents entered the residence and searched for the package, locating the package in a filing cabinet in the first room of the residence, in the second drawer.
Joseph A Fontenot was arrested and charged with:
(1) One Count Possession or Dealing in Unregistered or Illegally Transferred Weapons
Joseph A Fontenot received a bond of $125,000.00
