NARCOTIC ARREST: BOYD POSSESSION OF A SCHEDULE IV CDS (FELONY)

Date Posted: 06/17/2026

On May 19th, 2026, Criminal Patrol Agents with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office, while patrolling within the city of Ville Platte, La., specifically traveling on East LaSalle, observed the driver of a vehicle who appeared nervous and was continuously looking rearward and through the side and rear-view mirrors.   Due to the driver's unusual and inconsistent actions, agents radioed the license plate number to dispatch as the vehicle was turning in the Country Cove parking lot. These observations above, based on the agents' training, knowledge, and experience, are consistent with attempting to avoid or conceal from law enforcement while in the commission of a crime or when a crime is about to be committed. Based on this, agents observed the vehicle leave the parking lot.   Once the vehicle departed the parking lot, agents became aware that the vehicle did not maintain insurance and a traffic stop on the vehicle was conducted on Whiteville Road near Lee St.   Upon agents approaching the passenger side of the vehicle, they observed the passenger, a 45-year-old white female who was identified as Kristin Boyd.  Both occupants were asked to exit the vehicle and step to the rear. Upon doing so, Ms. Boyd became nervous, not wanting to look at the agent during the field interview.  Once at the rear of the unit, agents began speaking with both occupants and asked if there were any weapons in the vehicle, to which the driver responded no.  Agents then asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. At that time, I observed Ms. Boyd look down again. I then asked in reference to separate types of narcotics in the vehicle, and Ms. Boyd continued to look down and refused to answer, only regarding marijuana. Based on these observations, I asked the driver, Tywaina McDaniel, for permission to search the vehicle, to which she granted.  During the search, the following was located.

Ms. Boyd was arrested and charged with (1) Count of 40:966C3. A Possession of Schedule 1 (Synthetic Marijuana) First Offense Misdemeanor (1) Count of 40:969C (Clonazepam) Possession of a Schedule IV CDS Felony

Ms. McDaniel was cited for no insurance and no proof of registration; the vehicle was towed due to the no insurance. Ms. McDaniel did produce a prescription for her medication.
