High Speed Pursuit on I49
The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Deputies were involved in a High-Speed Pursuit on I49 on 3-31-26 at approximately 3:30 pm. While working traffic on I-49, the Chief Deputy and the traffic Deputy were working a detail on the southbound lane of I49, when they attempted to stop a Speeder.
The suspect, identified as Akeiriyon Mitchell of Baton Rouge, fled, leading the Deputies on a High-Speed Pursuit. After attempting to ram both Deputy units and nearly striking several vehicles on I49, she exited the Interstate and began traveling on LA29(Whiteville Road), heading towards Ville Platte. Mitchell then came to a stop after traveling several miles on LA29. Mitchell was arrested without further incident and transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail. After further investigation, it was determined that Mitchell had several Warrants for the Baton Rouge PD for the following: Attempted First Degree Murder, Simple Burglary, Aggravated Assault w/a Firearm, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Illegal Use of a Gun, Crime of Violence, and Aggravated Assault with a Firearm.
The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office charged Mitchell with Resisting an Officer, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Stop Sign and Yield Signs, Maximum Speed Limit, Aggravated Assault with a Vehicle against a Police Officer, and Aggravated Flight from an Officer. Mitchell is being held with NO BOND and a Hold placed on her for Baton Rouge PD.
