BUTLER'S TREE SERVICE BURGLARY
On February 10, 2026, deputies with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a burglary at Butler's Tree Service, located in the 6000 block of U.S. Highway 167 N.
Upon arrival, deputies learned that a suspect had entered the business and removed a chainsaw from the equipment storage area. Surveillance footage showed a masked subject take a chainsaw and leave the property.
The case was then turned over to Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division, who reviewed the surveillance footage and began their investigation.
Information was developed identifying the suspect as Casey Stephen McCauley, 31, of Ville Platte.
Detectives located McCauley and interviewed him, during which he denied any involvement in the burglary.
During the investigation, Detectives learned that the stolen chainsaw was recovered by officers with the Turkey Creek Police Department and positively identified by the business owner from whom it was stolen.
Further investigation revealed that the chainsaw had been traded in exchange for narcotics.
Based on the evidence obtained, detectives secured arrest warrants for McCauley.
On February 24, 2026, McCauley was arrested and booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on the following charges:
• Unauthorized Entry of a Place of Business (Felony) - Louisiana Revised Statute 14:62.4
• Simple Burglary (Felony) - Louisiana Revised Statute 14:62
His bond was set at $75,000.00.

The investigation remains ongoing.
