BURGLARY IN PROGRESS LEADS TO THE ARREST OF SUSPECT KARI LYNN VIATOR

On the morning of 5/1/2025, deputies with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to 3000 block of Pine Point Rd.. in reference to a burglary in progress.  Deputies were given a description of the suspect and informed that the suspect had left the area on a bicycle.  Within minutes, deputies arrived in the area and began searching for the suspect. Deputies then made contact with the caller and was supplied with video of the suspect.

After deputies spoke to the caller, they began searching for the suspect again.  Deputies discovered bicycle tracks that led to a nearby home. Upon the Deputy's arrival to the Deputies could see the suspect in a shed on the property.  Deputies made contact with the suspect, who was identified as Kari Lynn Viator. Deputies were able to place Viator under arrest after a brief struggle.

Located in Viator's possession was a backpack. Deputies searched the backpack incidental to the arrest.  Deputies located items indicating that the backpack was stolen from another location.  Deputies were able to contact the owner of the backpack, who lived at the 3100 block of Acorn Rd.  Deputies asked the owners to check their property for any signs of a break-in and were informed that two vehicles were broken into, along with a storage room at the residence.

Kari Lynn Viator was booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail for the following charges.

 

2 Counts of Simple Burglary

 

2 Counts of Simple Burglary of a Vehicle

 

1 Count of Theft less than $1000

 

1 Count of Theft of $1000 but less than $5000

 

1 Count of Resisting an Officer
