The Criminal Patrol unit of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office consist of Deputy Matthew Willis (K-9 handler) and his partner Deputy Diego (K-9).
Deputy Willis has been in law enforcement since 2016. Deputy Willis served as a patrol officer with the Ville Platte Police Department, before joining the Sheriff Office in 2020.
Diego is a 6-year-old Belgium Malinois. He was donated to the department from his owner Mr. Nate Fey when he retired from the Richmond Illinois Sheriff Office. Diego has been on patrol for 4.5 years. He has been deployed hundreds of times on narcotic searches, and has recovered numerous amounts of narcotics. Diego is also trained to track and recover lost individuals and wanted individuals.
Deputy Willis and Diego were certified by LA K-9 to work narcotics and patrol. The two together make a great team. We will be utilizing them to combat the illegal narcotics in the parish.
