On May 13, 2024, at around 4 pm, the Criminal Investigations Division of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center advising that deputies were on the scene of a shooting on Chatagnier Road near the Dollar General.

During the investigation, it was learned that the victim, Mr. Lee Larnette of Ville Platte, went to the Dollar General and later walked back to his mother's home. During that time, a gray SUV pulled up beside him and the victim advised that he saw the passenger front window open. The victim advised that he made eye contact with the suspect and was able to identify who he was. During that time, the suspect raised a firearm at the victim, fired three times, resulting in the victim being hit twice. He was later taking to an area hospital where he is recovering from his injuries.

During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Bryson Fontenot B/M DOB 10/06/1998 of Ville Platte.  He was taken into custody for an unrelated incident in the City Limits of Ville Platte. On May 28, 2024, he was subsequently charged with one count of attempted first degree murder. His bond is set at $500,000.00
