01/28/2022

On January 26, 2022, during the early morning hours, the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office received a walk in complaint from a victim stating  she had shot her ex-boyfriend.  The victim indicated that the suspect (Jean Mcneil Joseph) of Ville Platte was currently being treated for two gunshot wounds at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte La.

During the investigation, it was learned that the victim has an active restraining order against him due to previous incidents of domestic violence.  Prior to going the hospital, the victim reported that the suspect broke into her residence by kicking in the front door of the residence located at the 100 Block on Monette St. in Ville Plate La. Upon making entry, the suspect entered the victim's bedroom and attempted to remove her clothes in order to sexually assault the victim.  During the struggle, the victim's juvenile child entered the victim's bedroom to see what the commotion was all about.  At that point, the suspect grabbed the juvenile child and put him inside of another bedroom.

Once the child was placed in another room, the suspect attempted to assault the victim again.  During that time, the victim obtained a small caliber handgun from her bed room and shot the victim in his leg.  After being shot in one leg, the suspect made an attempt in unarming the victim.  During the struggle, the victim fired another shot at the suspect hitting his other leg.  The suspect finally took the gun from the victim, fled the area in his vehicle, and drove to a local hospital where he was later released after being treated for his injuries.  No other injuries were reported.

After the suspect was released from the hospital, he was taken into custody be Detectives where he denied all allegations.  The suspect was later transported to the Evangeline Parish Jail where he was booked and charged with the following charges and is being held with no bond.
