On the 31st of December 2021 at approximately 11:23 pm. The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Department received a call of a wreck on Morning Glory Road, in the Basile area. When Deputies arrived on scene, they discovered a two-vehicle wreck, north of the train tracks involving a Toyota Camary and a GMC Yukon. 

The driver of the Toyota Katina Ardoin of Basile sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene by the Evangeline parish Corners office. The passenger of the Toyota Pamela Mayhall of Basile sustained minor injuries and was transported to Acadian Medical Center in Eunice. 

The driver of the Yukon Sarah Chapman of Eunice was not injured. Deputies along with the assistance of La. State Police worked the crash investigation. 

During the investigation it was determined the driver of the Yukon caused the crash. Upon further investigation the driver of the Yukon was arrested and charged as follows.
