EPSO TEAMS UP WITH LOUISIANA HIGHWAY SAFETY COMMISSION TO HELP MAKE EVANGELINE PARISH SAFE
The Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. For the children of this parish, marks the start of summer vacation. The Evangeline Parish Sheriff Office would like to wish everyone traveling our roadways a safe and joyful summer. We are taking this time to remind everyone to always buckle up. During the Memorial Day holiday there are about 10,000 law enforcement agencies that will be out on the roads from May 24 through June 6 to remind drivers and passengers to buckle their seat belts. The annual Click It or Ticket campaign aims at enforcing seat belt use to help keep travelers safe as they drive to their summer destinations.
The latest 2020 data shows that seat belt use has risen to 90.3%, and unrestrained occupant deaths have dropped to 38.5% in 2019. Seat belt use estimates come from the National Occupant Protection Use Survey (NOPUS), conducted annually by NHTSA. Fifty five percent of those fatalities happened at night (6pm-5:59am). Law enforcement will be taking a no-excuse approach to seat belt law enforcement during the Click it or Ticket campaign, writing citations day and night.
The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Department received a Grant from LHSC and this will be the first year that the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's office will be participating in this Click it or Ticket campaign. We are very excited to be teaming up with other Law Enforcement Agencies across the state. Making the roadways safer for the citizens of Evangeline Parish.
EPSO was approved for a DWI/DUI Grant which we will be kicking off later this summer, again, making our roadways safer. There will be more to come on this later.
Sheriff Charles R. Guillory would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Summer!
