Sheriff Charles R. Guillory, of the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Office releases the following:

 On the 19th of December 2020 The Evangeline Parish Sheriffs Department Criminal Patrol Unit, was working in the Mamou area. Deputies stopped a red Chevrolet impala with a Texas license plate for a traffic violation, after observing what they believed to be drug sales from this car in a local business parking lot . When deputies walked up to the car, they could smell marijuana coming from it. Deputies also saw a handgun in plain view next to the back-seat passenger. Deputies detained all occupants for safety. The driver of the vehicle gave permission to search the vehicle. Deputies found two handguns and a large amount of marijuana and over $ 900 in U S currency. This resulted in the following arrest.

LA:RS: 40:966 A Possession with intent to distribute marijuana

LA:RS: 40:1023 Possession of drug paraphernalia

He was charged with

We will continue to work hard to rid our community and streets of the drugs that plague us. Since July 1st 2020 we have made over 85 drug arrest seized several guns, Vehicles and U S currency. This is just a start of what is to come. I am keeping my word to the citizens of Evangeline Parish that I will do everything in my power to clean up our parish.
